Health & Physical Education

Physical Education is a dynamic program that upholds the philosophies of inclusivity and fun. JHPS actively and enthusiastically promotes the values of physical activity in our students’ lives. We provide students the opportunities to learn about and practice ways of working well with others and maintaining a healthy, productive and active life.

Our Physical Education program involves students as individuals, through challenging and fun movement experiences, whilst it improves the capacity to move with skill and confidence in a variety of activities.

Our program is developed to be inclusive of all our students, regardless of their abilities, with an emphasis on fun and participation and sporting pursuits that include us in the wider community. We have a whole school approach to sport with all students participating in inter-school sports and intra-school sports through school house competitions.

Art

Visual Art at JHPS provides students with the opportunity to explore a variety of different art making skills such as drawing, painting, digital photography, printmaking and clay work. Students also learn how to interpret and gain information from artworks that they study in class. They experience the making of art as well as the study of art, both historically and critically. Art should be fun and at JHPS it certainly is with a focus on individuality and students ability to make and create being the underlying guide to every lesson.

Throughout each year JHPS students benefit from exhibiting their artwork and being involved in community art projects that are linked with community projects and local Secondary Schools.

Performing Arts

JHPS  holds Performing arts as an integral and integrated part of our curriculum and includes, Dance, Drama and Music.

Dance at JHPS will see all students participate in “Hip Hop” dancing during Term 1, experience and develop dance from different culture, times and locations, and use their creative freedom to choreograph and perform their own dance routines.

Drama at JHPS will see students boost their confidence in performing. Students will explore drama within different cultures and societies through studying performances, television, film and online resources. They will have the opportunity to experience role plays and interact with others through dramatic plays.

Music at JHPS will see students have the opportunity to play instruments in class, such as the Ukulele, the Glockenspiel, Xylophones, Recorders, Bongo Drums and many more.

Students will also have the opportunity to engage in private or small group instrumental lessons with an outside music company during school time for those interested families.

Music at JHPS will include a Senior School Choir, in which students can join and perform at a variety of events throughout the year.

Science

Humans love to wonder, imagine and question and this is the essence of Science. Learning about Science enables students to experience the excitement of scientific discovery and nurture their natural curiosity about the world around them. In doing this, students develop critical and creative thinking skills and challenge themselves to identify questions and draw evidence-based conclusions using scientific methods.

1. Science as a Human Endeavour – How is science applied in our lives?

2.Biological Science – The study of living things

3.Physical Science – The study of matter and natural forces

4.Chemical Science – The study of chemistry

5.Earth and Space Science The study of our planets and their environments.

We are extremely excited with our JHPS ‘Frog Bog’ and students will spend many lessons exploring, discovering and learning about the biological world that surrounds JHPS. Environmental Sustainability will be a huge focus at JHPS and all community members will be expected to play their part.
