Digital Technology in 2027
From 2027, all Victorian schools will follow the Department of Education’s updated Digital Technology policy. At JHPS, our focus is on ensuring technology supports learning purposefully, safely, and in age‑appropriate ways.
For Foundation to Year 2, students will have minimal screen use, with digital tools introduced only when they directly support learning outcomes in the Victorian Curriculum. These early years will continue to prioritise hands‑on learning, social development, and play.
For Years 3–6, digital technology will be used intentionally and in structured learning contexts. Families are not expected to purchase devices. When technology is required, the school will provide access to school shared devices and technologies.
As further DET guidance is released, we will update our community and ensure all families have clear, practical information about how digital learning will look in classrooms.
What We Do:
-
Provide all required digital devices through our school‑managed portal. Families are not expected to purchase personal devices.
-
Ensure technology use is purposeful and curriculum‑aligned, with minimal digital exposure in F–2 and structured, intentional use in Years 3–6.
-
Maintain safe, secure systems overseen by our IT Department, including device management, filtering, and monitoring in line with DET requirements.
-
Teach students safe, responsible and respectful online behaviour as part of our Digital Technologies and Wellbeing programs.
-
Regularly review and update our practices as DET releases new guidance.
